Music with Ms. Lisa

In music class, the children have been practicing several fun Thanksgiving songs in class. They especially enjoy singing "Ten Little Turkeys" and "Mr. Turkey Struts Around."  Ms. Lisa has been teaching the children the different parts of the violin and the children have caught on very quickly. They all sing up the scale while Ms. Lisa points to the parts:

"This is the scroll, these are the pegs, this is the fingerboard, these are the strings, this is the bridge, this is the chin rest, this is the tailpiece, these are the F-holes."

The kids are also learning how to recognize how many beats are in a note.  When the children see one line they say 'Blue' (represents one beat because it has one syllable) When they see two lines, they say, 'Jell-O' (represents two beats because it has two syllables) and when they see a rest, they cross two fingers together silently.

If you're wondering why the kids have been coming home with a violin stamp and a bow stamp on their hands, it's because they are also learning which hand holds the violin and which one holds the bow. They are doing such a phenomenal job!

Mandarin

In addition to reviewing numbers and colors in Mandarin through songs and games, this week we learned how to say "teacher"(lǎo shī). To greet a teacher, we say "lǎo shī hǎo".  We also watched a video about the words we use in greetings. Here is the link:
